VOULA TWIN APARTMENT BUILDINGS
Athens, Greece
design/completion: 1999 – 2002
area: 870 m2
The Twin Apartment Buildings are in Panorama Voulas, a recent suburban development on the southern feet of Mt.Hemyttus. Each building has three 125m2 (3 bedroom) flats.
Sea view is the area’s major real estate product. The long plot, in fact a whole building block, faces the sea on its narrow side. Each one of the two buildings has one side with a large white wall on one side and extensive balconies on the other in a way that the buildings do not seem to obstruct each other’s view.
This double identity creates an instant urbanism, an artificial and arbitrary sense of back and front, of public and private, in the middle of a completely eroded fabric of a new city obsessed with visual access to a fragment of the Aegean blue.
