BASKETBALL TRAINING FACILITY
Athens, Greece
Invited architectural competition entry 2009
area: 1.400 m2
The program includes an indoor basketball court with a gym and an outdoor swimming pool, locker rooms, guest accommodations and auxiliary spaces.
The main basketball hall is an elevated double skin structure. Its structural members are contained within the double skin blurred behind the u-glass outer wall.
The relatively large hall, supported on recessed columns, seems to hover over the site, allowing for a loose layout for the rest of the program. By means of lifting off the central and most programmatically intense part, ample space both indoors and outdoors is left for the more relaxed and hedonistic functions.
