FILOTHEI RESIDENCES, OURANI STREET
Athens, Greece
design/completion: 2019 – 2021
area: 400 m2
The apartment building consists of two family residences. It is located on a quiet street of the suburb of Filothei, on a plot with no interesting views at ground level; notably, the views on the higher floors, open towards a green hill to the southwest .
The project calls for a suburban living model, focusing to maintain an affinity with nature, while still constructing at maximum density. The design aims to realize two homes on a relatively small plot, ensuring the best possible views and orientation for all.
The 170 m2 ground floor apartment is in direct proximity to the garden and oriented towards a swimming pool to the west, bordered by tall trees towards the street and the neighboring plot.
The upper floor 200 m2 apartment has a double height living room, a loft and outdoor spaces, all enveloped in a porous rectangular prism. The three dimensional array of open spaces leading to the elevated landscaped garden and BBQ on the roof is directed towards the views and southwest orientation.
Both houses have extensive glazing to ensure continuity between the living areas and the outdoors. In addition, shading elements, both vertical and horizontal, regulate light and transparency.
The covered ramp on the north side of the plot leads to the entrance and the main stairway at the heart of the building. A high dividing wall along the walkway shields the privacy of the ground floor residence’s garden.
